SCIENCE GAMES – OCTOBER 17-19, 2025

A scientific/cultural event that timidly emerged from an isolated island, has established itself as an institution, completing five years of existence, and has come to connect remote areas of Greece.

This was also the initial goal of the organizers of this ambitious but bold endeavour: to transform Kastellorizo every year into a centre of creative thought, knowledge, and scientific inspiration, a pole of attraction that will host scientists from all fields, puzzle makers, and artists.

Unwaveringly faithful to our annual meeting, which year by year is becoming increasingly popular, we have proven that science can take many appealing forms: to become a game, an adventure, a celebration.

The trigger and pillar of the organization have been and remain the Megisti Puzzle Museum, the only one of its kind in Greece, which opened its doors in 2020, creating a space where local tradition coexists with a wide range of cultural events and puzzle presentations.

In 2025, the Festival, after travelling from Kastellorizo, the birthplace of the unique Greek puzzle-makers, to Xanthi, a city with rich cultural activity, will return again to its base with greater ingenuity and imagination, creating the 5th Puzzle Festival.

And this year the Puzzle Festival will prove to be a versatile and multi-thematic event, with puzzles continuing to inspire our creative thinking. Its dynamics are reinforced by the presence of distinguished academics, researchers, talented scientists, educators, and artists who share with the same enthusiasm the vision of the organizers: Pantazis Houlis, the founder of the Puzzle Museum, and Eleni Grammatikopoulou, known for her contributions to the field of Science communication.

The 5th Puzzle Festival, expanding its content with various scientific events, workshops, innovative experiments, talks, and artistic activities, will once again attract the interest not only of the local community but also of students and educators from nearby islands and other regions of Greece, proving that a small and remote island can now create its own culture.
