Ioannis Douros

Dr. Ioannis Douros was born and raised in Athens.

He studied Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. His thesis focused on speech recognition systems based on MRI scans of the vocal tract. He then completed his PhD in computer science at the LORIA Research Center and the University Hospital of Nancy (France), on the modeling of speech production and the study of simplifications of the geometry of the vocal tract from MRI data.

He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the “Athena” Research Center, on the development of speech recognition systems for languages with limited language resources. He then worked in the private sector as a scientific project manager in European Horizon projects in the field of artificial intelligence. Today he works as an AI Specialist at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

In his spare time he plays bridge, dances and reads books. A special place in his life is occupied by logic puzzles, which he has been collecting and solving systematically for the last 20 years. He has participated in international puzzle solving competitions, with the most important moment being the representation of Greece in the World Sudoku and Logic Puzzle Championship in 2012.
